My Home in Rome
During the spring semester of my sophomore year, I studied abroad for a semester on the other side of the world. I chose Rome because it was in a country and culture that I have been interested in for my entire life. This experience broadened my horizons and changed my outlook on the world. For four months, I lived in Italy and learned more about myself than I ever have before. Living in Rome for an extended period of time showed me how to acclimate to new surroundings and learn brand new routines that were completely different to my typical culture back home.
Study Abroad
Travels throughout Europe
I have always been a learner by doing. Theorizing and guessing can only get you so far. My time in Europe gave me this hands-on experience and more. While traveling to new and different countries, I was thrown into complex situations and had to think on my feet in order to solve them. This experience with rationally solving problems quickly has proven very useful back home.
Cultural Awareness
I am very proud of how aware my trip overseas made me of other cultures. As the United States is diverse and inclusive, I have seen many different cultures living here all my life. While this has given me some knowledge of other groups, I never truly knew how they differed until I was able to actually visit where they originated. During my time in Morocco, I was able to see the daily lives of citizens in the markets of Marrakech and I was amazed by the differences in culture. These new experiences not only have made me look intrinsically on my own, but also to appreciate other cultures and incorporate their customs into my own.
